Represented by the Gagosian Gallery and the Massimo de Carlo Gallery in Italy, Mosset has had numerous exhibitions at museums and cultural institutions such as the Centre d'Art Contemporain in Geneva, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Musée d'Art Contemporain in Lyon, the Kunsthalle Zurich in Zurich and the Venice Biennale. Olivier Mosset's artistic practice is developed through painting; it is direct, overt and minimalist. The artist took part in the BMPT collective, dedicated to the search for an artistic dialectic that represses pictorial subjectivity. Mosset's works represent the abstraction of colour and shapes in their pure appearance, where symbols and metaphors give way to painting. The use of neutral and repetitive patterns permeates the artist's practice, which questions the theorisation of new artistic and cultural research.

As part of Cremona Contemporanea - Art Week, San Carlo Cremona presents Olivier Mosset with the solo exhibition "San Carlo PG" at the deconsecrated church of San Carlo.

[caption id="attachment_1236" align="alignnone" width="2560"] Olivier Mosset, San Carlo PG, 2023, 5 x 20 m – Ph. Andrea Rossetti[/caption]

The work consists of a monumental yellow painting that fills the floor of the 17th-century church. The work made specifically for the space measures more than five by twenty meters and extends to the edges of the nave as if wishing to expand beyond it. The installation creates a spatial unity in which the emphasis is purely on color and challenges the traditional vertical position of art. Olivier Mosset is one of the central figures of postwar abstract painting, and an essential reference for several generations of European and American painters. In the pursuit of formal rigor and the physical roots of painting, Olivier Mosset's art is direct and overt, suppressing figuration, subjectivity, symbol, and metaphor in a practice that contains and rejects the dialectical history of painting. With the same analytical rigor as his early work, Mosset's most recent painting exhales the fields of monochromatic and geometric abstraction.

323

Olivier Mosset - Cremona Contemporanea | Art Week - ed. 2023

<meta property="og:description" content="Olivier Mosset (Berna, 1944) è un artista visivo che vive e lavora a Tucson, in Arizona.
